NWT Wildfires: Officials provide update and details on government funding options | LIVE

Officials from the Northwest Territories government are set to provide an update and take questions pertaining to the ongoing wildfires and evacuations in the territory Monday evening.

Earlier in the day, the N.W.T. government announced funding for residents who self-evacuated by road and for small businesses affected by evacuation orders in the territory.

The Evacuation Travel Support Program is now available to N.W.T. residents who, by order, evacuated their home community because of the 2023 wildfires. Evacuees who left by road but need to return by air will be eligible to register for organized re-entry flights paid for by the government.

Wildfires have run rampant through tens of thousands of square kilometres in the territory since earlier this month, forcing the declaration of a state of emergency last week and residents of the capital city, Yellowknife, and Hay River near the Alberta border, to flee.
