Bruce Lake says he knew he had to help when he spotted a swimmer in trouble during a recent hike in New Brunswick he and a group of friends were traveling through Fundy National Park last weekend when they saw a woman clinging to a rock in rough river waters she basically let

Go of the rock that she was holding on to and got sucked underneath so she immediately went underneath and did come back up again right near the Rock and then grabbed the Rock and held on that’s when they knew she would not be able to get back to safety alone he eventually

Pushed off and it was amazing how like she didn’t get on top of the water you know when you’re swimming kind of deep in the water and she literally just got sucked she just disappeared like very quickly right in front of her eyes he says seconds felt like an eternity and

Then he was sleeping into the water and then I just kind of spread out my arms to see if I could feel her or if she was somewhere close and I brushed her arm and I felt her and she was actually deeper than I was you couldn’t see them

The water had too much Fury and then yeah again like a C note of a movie you just see Bruce pop up out of the water and he’s got her under his arm Lake felt relief when he heard her gasp for air when they reached the surface her friend

Got her arm and then I lost touch with her and and I’ll tell you it’s I was getting sucked back into the exact same spot and only for her to turn around and she reached her arm and I actually grabbed her arm and we got pulled in

Together his loved ones say it’s not surprising the inspector with turo police would risk his life for a stranger that’s very typical of Bruce he’s very you know modest unassuming he just likes to help and doesn’t think anything of it when he does he’s just that that’s the nature of of Bruce Skye

An off-duty Truro police officer is being praised as a hero for his brave waterfall rescue over the weekend near Alma, N.B.

While out for a hike with a group of friends at Fundy National Park, Nova Scotian Bruce Lake spotted a woman in trouble, who was clinging to a rock in rough river waters. He was quick to dive into the water to help her.

“It was like a scene out of a bad movie. She went underneath the water and we expected her head to pop up any second and to emerge over towards where we were,” said Dave Brosha, Lake’s friend. “But she didn’t. She just disappeared.”

Global’s Skye Bryden-Blom has the details of the rescue.
