Health minister monitoring COVID-19 “very closely” amid early signs cases on the rise

Uh so first of all we’re monitoring the situation very closely obviously with eg5 and uh the the various uh sub-variants of Omicron uh were evaluating uh uh on a daily basis uh what the case count is and what the trajectory is this is fully expected uh

We knew that uh that as we lead into fall that we’ll see an increase in uh in the case count uh the the the critical thing right now is for everybody to get their vaccinations up to date uh for people to take appropriate Health precautions uh but uh you know in terms

Of our Readiness we are we are ready and working with not only our provincial and territorial Partners but International Partners on monitoring and are ready to take action as is as is needed as this uh situation evolves great and thank you for mentioning vaccines the second question is beer

Public Health saying a new vaccine that helps with the latest variant is coming in the fall given that should people wait or should people get their shot now well you know we just saw a report that looked at a hybrid that looked at hybrid immunity across Canada uh and showed

That the practices and approaches that we’ve taken are incredibly effective among the most effective in the world and led us to have one of the lowest death rates in the world as it was in fact it’s estimated that uh that using vaccines saved in Canada about 800 000

Lives which is incredibly significant uh people should be getting keeping their vaccines updated and the data in science as we move through this process are evidence of that my advice is that people keep up with that regime there will consistently be new variants and we will consistently have new vaccines so I

Think when you are eligible and able to get a vaccine you should take it uh that when there are new vaccines are available and it’s your time then that’s the appropriate thing to do but I don’t think people should hesitate in getting vaccinated at any time

Canada’s new Health Minister Mark Holland says the federal government is monitoring the COVID-19 situation ‘very closely’ as the latest data from the Public Health Agency of Canada suggests infections may be rising, while cautioning that an uptick is expected as the fall nears as a new variant known as EG.5 emerges.
